Meet the Team: Kelly
Tom Owen and Son Funeral Directors was established in 1930. We have been serving the local community and surrounding area for over 90 years. We are proud to be the oldest professionally qualified independent family owned Funeral Directors in Llandudno, that has now welcomed the fourth generation of the family to the helm.
I’m Kelly. I hail from Manchester, an eighties child! I’m mum to a teenage daughter and met Tristan, back in 2014 while we worked together.
I began working, shortly after leaving college, as a receptionist at an architect firm in central Manchester. It was here that I learnt all about organisation, attention to detail and how to send an email!
A stint in mental health nursing followed, a career change I stuck at for 18 months, but at 21, due to a change in my personal circumstances, I moved back to an office for many years as an Executive Assistant.
I met Tristan while working together and love blossomed. The rest, as they say, is history! During the first lockdown of 2020, an opportunity arose for us both to make a move to North Wales as a family. We quit our jobs and packed up to take over the running of Tom Owen and Son.
“I can’t speak highly enough of Kelly and her colleagues. They made what was a very upsetting period more bearable by taking on the stresses of arranging the funeral in what are pretty extraordinary times. Nothing was too much trouble and Kelly was always available to discuss matters. ”
I love nothing more than going for walks with the family dog and spending time with friends and family. Being in nature, especially amongst the beautiful surroundings that North Wales has to offer really makes my heart sing. I’m also a fantastic cook (according to Tristan and my mother in law!) and I can regularly be found, in the kitchen, with a glass of wine trying out new recipes!
I’m really proud to say that I’m Tom Owen and Son’s first female Funeral Director, in addition to being responsible for the accounts and social media.
I’m the mum of the team. Always asking how others are and putting them first. I think my empathetic nature and ability to listen to families in need allows me to create a fitting tribute and send off for their loved ones. I take great pride in looking after everyone I meet and treating others like a member of my own family.
Since joining the company, I’ve been responsible (with technical help from Tristan!) for setting up our website and social media channels. I’m the creative one, brimming with ideas to make the grief journey that families start on a positive experience. In addition to the website, I’ve implemented a new accounting software, created new branding for the company, set up an online tribute facility for all families plus partnered with a local bereavement counselling group to offer families much needed support if required.
Scott Owen, Managing Director says “The warmth and empathy that Kelly shows to all families makes her a key asset of this family team. Her energy and creativity will make Tom Owen and Son even better and I’m so very proud of her taking on this role.”
It’s really great to be part of a team that wholeheartedly supports and encourages my creativity and ideas. Next on my ideas list is to introduce an informal coffee morning at a local coffee shop for those that have been bereaved. Keep an eye out on our social media channels, as we are just waiting for the go ahead re dates when safe to do so.
I absolutely love my job and North Wales. I feel incredibly privileged to be in this position.
