About Us

Tom Owen & Son Funeral Directors are one of the leading funeral directing firms in North Wales, and are very proud of their heritage, as being the oldest established funeral directors in Llandudno. They started in 1911, when the late founder Mr. Tom Owen helped out other undertakers in the town, with his taxis. Later in 1930, he decided to start his own funeral directing company and his son Mr. Peter Owen joined him on leaving school. He bought the little shop next door to their home in Bodhyfryd Road, Llandudno, where they have been ever since, although it is somewhat different today, in 1960 they became a Limited Company.

One of the very first funerals they undertook on their own was Tom’s mother’s funeral, and this started what today is still very much a family business, concerned with helping local families. It is today run by the grandson of the founder Mr. Scott Owen, who is very proud of his funeral directing family background, and has been working in and running the firm for the past thirty three years. He passed his professional diploma in funeral directing in 1980. He has two colleagues working full time with him, Mr. Jonathen Harty and Mr. Christopher Lord-Brown. Chris gained his professional diploma in 2001. Scott’s wife Jayne helps out in the office taking care of some of the everyday office work.

Over the past few years the premises have been carefully renovated and decorated throughout, they have extended their premises to include a small warehouse for general storage, and a conveniently placed car park at the rear of the premises.

The company can also promise one of the most modern funeral fleets in North Wales, and are pleased to announce the arrival of their new Mercedes Benz Hearse and Limousine; these vehicles confirm the commitment they have in providing the very best possible service and standard of care to the families they serve. Being able to provide the best of services and vehicles, at a time when it is the little details that matter, is crucially important to the overall feeling of wellbeing after the funeral is over. “Our duty of care is to everyone involved with the funeral, immediate family, close family, friends, and colleagues, all will be affected by the death of someone they know, love, or respect, and we respect the fact that this is an important time for everyone, and so we endeavour to make the funeral as respectful and as fitting to the memory of the deceased as possible”.

All this cannot be done without consultation with the family and loved ones, and with the many years of experience that we have, we can help provide them with a funeral that is fitting tribute to a very personal life. We hope to be able to carry on serving our local families with the best service, with the best vehicles, and it is hoped with the best value for money, we all know funerals are quite expensive, but we are here to help tailor the funeral to the needs and financial commitments of the individual family, we are not here to make life financially difficult afterwards. Every family will receive an estimate of the cost of the funeral before we firmly arrange anything, so they are aware of the financial implications of the funeral service they have ordered.
